After a conversation with another member I hade here about how you know if a reel will polish up nice, I tbought I would post some before and after examples.
All baitcasters soaked and cleaned in WD40 bath, then dried off and carefully wax polished (it is very earsy to go too far on these reels.

And a few more, with some full paint restorations too.

Hi Steve,

I use Turtle Wax Carnauba (in a green plastic bottle), but being that I am in the UK, it might be slightly different in some way to the product name and packaging in the USA? But any liquid carnauba wax should do.

The reason I use Carnauba wax is because it is a finishing wax and therefore less abrasive on those thin chrome and nickel finishes. It works well on smoother, less pitted or corroded surfaces.

Products like Brasso etc, are great metal polishes, but a bit too agressive for these reels.

Hope this helps.

No problem Steve, just remember to go easy on the  polishing; better to do it in several light passes than to cut through to the brass in one vigorous polish.
The screw heads and rivets are the first things to loose their plating.

Good luck.
