I had been trying to get a nice example of this X-pert reel for quite a while, and then I saw this one being sold by Daryl Rodenberger (who some of you may be familiar with?).
His quality clean reel sales have the additional appeal from his excellent and somewhat unique photography techniques.

I was also taken with this Black Hawk he was selling.

Strangely, I haven't seen any ebay sales from Daryl for some time, hope all is ok with him?

Hopefully I am showing what I believed to be Ocean City products here, if so they are the only two from this company that I own (just found out they were the father of Penn reels).

From what I am seeing, the X-pert was a Bronson reel and the Black hawk was Ocean City made.
Both trade reels made for Sears. But that is AI information. I don't see either reel in the old Bronson and Ocean City information I have saved over the years.
Nice looking reels!

Thank you Steve,

I do have an X-pert 50 by Bronson, but the handles or rather grasps on both these reels are the same design, and not like any Bronson grasps I have seen before (not trying to justify it as an Ocean City reel, but just an observation).
Did Bronson make any reels for Ocean City at any point I wonder?

I know that, for example, one of the Wards Precision trade reel designs was made by Bronson pre War, and post war the Wards precision was made by Shakespeare with a different end plate pattern. Was this the same for the X-pert reels?

With a lot of the trade reels being made under the same name by different manufacturers, it can get quite confusing (for me at least).

Thanks again.  :)

I asked Ai the question on who made the X-pert reel (much as I hate Ai), and got these answers.

1. "Ocean City produced the X-pert fishing reel, which was a re-branded version of their Viscoy Creek model".

2. "Shakespeare made the X-Pert reel, which is known for its engraved side plates and jeweled end caps, reflecting high-quality craftsmanship from the early 20th century".

Edit: I found out that the Viscoy Creek is a fly reel, so maybe Bronson or Shakespeare?

Normally I would go with Shakespeare on this, because of the 2 bridge screws in the crank plate?

Daryl knows his reels and advertised it as an Ocean City, but, who knows.... ?
Fascinating!
