Is there a price to pay?

Good day all.

Just a question.

I fish mainly from the shore, so casting is done often and sometimes the best spots are quite far out.

I'm fishing the Daiwa sl30sh, for any edible fish. I do get fairly good distance with it. I was thinking to switch to the daiwa sl30hax(hope that's correct).

This reel has the free floating spool when the clutch is flicked. It makes sense that with this  feature that a few extra meters could be gained.

Now my worry/question.

Does this feature "weaken" the reel in any way? That's wrt cranking power.

Thanks in advance.

Without getting into the specifics of the reels you mentioned, in theory, there should not be a reduction in strength/power due to a change from fixed shaft to floating shaft.  The qualifier is that it really depends on the exact engineering of the product.  One would assume that a company with a good reputation like Shimano would include the proper engineering so that the product would not be meaningfully weaker, if at all.

If you want an accurate answer to your specific question, you may want to consult with Shimano directly and see if they can give you any specs on it.

Thanks for the reply.

Just a note: both reels are Diawa :)

a freefloating spool should cast farther.  strengthwise, it should be fine.
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

I guess that was a "Freudian slip" on my part.  Sorry.
