i have two old squidders that are in great condition  when intook them apart i noticed that the main gear  has a silver tone unlike the new bronze gear what is it made of and is it stronger than the bronze one

It's probably steel.  It is stronger but also noisier and may be prone to rust.

plain steel, not stainless, so a good coat of grease will be needed to keep it from rusting.
