Penn 990 five stack drag

Has anyone upgraded their Penn 990 to a 5 stack drag???

it might be possible.  you would have to use the one thick slotted metal washer from the original reel, then somehow find one more.   then you could use two or three of the keyed metal washers from the penn 113h, and finally five of the thin #6-320 carbon fiber drag washers from the penn 320 gt2.  it would also require that the main gear have grooves on opposite sides that run all the way to the bottom of the main gear, not just halfway down like some penn gear do. 

honestly, though. getting a stack of 5 penn #6-113h's and stacking them "2+2+1" will give you a functional stack of three carbon fiber drag washers inside the main gear.  then add a #6-875 drag washer under the main gear.  this drag system will deliver an easy 10 pounds of drag, which should be fine for this reel.
