Level wind issue, old and worn.. Or Pawl is loose...
Takes to long to grab at one end, lays to much line there.

If you can feel any jumping while winding it may be the Level wind Gear (Nylon, missing teeth).

Watch it and let us know what it does..
Slow to change direction at one end or jumps & works when it wants to..
Does the Worm gear turn at steady, constant speed??

Try to tighten the Pawl (if its loose), if that doesnt do it, your probably going to have to buy a new Worm gear (at least) I would do both - gear & pawl at some time.....

Or a new Level wind gear..  You would probably notice it jumping/missing the teeth..

Hmmm, when I spin the handle,as the levelwind tracks left towards the handle side,at the very end I can feel a slight grinding,Other than that nothing else. The idle gear and end gear dont have any missing teeth, the worm gear seems fine.

I have had to look at worm gears with a Magnifying glass to see the chipped end of them.
It doesnt take much at all to wear or chip the worm gear teeth at the end, they get very thin & taper off to nothing...

I would just order a Worm Gear & Pawl...  Install & go fish...
