In comparision mine was babied. It was always clothed in a reel cover when not in use.  Used only in fresh and brackish water. Always pampered in Reel X Corrosion X and INOX.   It had no scratches. The corrosion occurred on the inside of the frame under the sideplates.  Three Shimano inclined Tackle Shops on the S.W. coast of Florida said they had seen it before.  Like I said theres lots of other who had the same experience on the net.  Shimano was defiant in upholding any warranty
