can somebody help with the identification of this reel
on the foot is stamped 81-4 87 88
red abu,sweden,looks about 6500.
handle knob black,  abu sweden molded on top

This is suposed to be how to read the codes, but after comparing your numbers to this chart, I'm confused.

One of the older codes ABU has used through the years, pretty confusing.

I'm not totally certain how to decode, but I think it's: Design year 1981, 4th revision, made in 1987.
I'd guess it's a 6000C if it's got bearings and of a 6-size.
Something like 40 BCs, mostly ABU. Still counting upwards...

Assuming the reel has not been diddled with over time, is there a line-out alarm, and is it a flapper or the good one?  Mookie I suspect has it right RE the age, and coding interpretation.

Good grief.....I suspect you had never seen a 7 in your life, to not tell it was one....No wonder there were challenges for folks attempting to help !!!! I hope from this day hence, you got the size worked out !!!!  Now that you have seen a 7, compared to a 6  ;D ;D ;D....

(All parts are still available, except the side plates may be starting to thin out. All 7 SE plates fit, so you are good to go for another 25 years.)
