7/9/09 - kid's trip out of santa cruz

it's a late report, but we launched out of santa cruz with a small craft advisory up the coast.  since santa cruz faces south, we can fish close to the harbor and not get beat up too badly.  christina invited her friend, winni.



allison invited her friend eileen, who absolutely hates getting her photo taken.



and i invited greg.  he's 20 years old, he's studying at the california maritime academy, and i think the girls think he's hot!



we headed 5 miles up the coast and the wind was already picking up.



the fish were pretty small.  this was winni's first time out on the water, ever, so she was still pretty excited.



the kids were able to use these light iron jigs with one of the engines in slow idle reverse.





one of the kids actually snagged an octopus, so we had a pet for about 20 minutes and then we let him go.



even with the small fish, we still had enough for a nice dinner.
