Greasing Lever Drag Washers

Hi all

I am sure the answer to my question is in many of the posts and articles on this site but I just haven't see it.

When greasing carbon fibre lever drag washers, why is the procedure to wipe off the excess grease with a rag, yet with star drag reels, the procedure is to not wipe of the grease and let the excess squeeze out?

you want maximum freespool for casting.  getting rid of the excess grease does just that.

I hadn't thought of it from that point of view as you don't see lever drag reels being used for casting that much here in the UK.

yeah, if not for that you could slap on as much grease as you want.

But it has to be the right grease   Right Alan
