New to the site, thanks to the info I've gleaned here I'm diving into some old 209's which I use for downrigger trolling for Lake Michigan salmon.  On one reel, the clicker has become intermittent when putting line out in free spool.  It appears that the toothed gear(s?) behind the level wind drive gear, which I believe are what the clicker tongue engages, are loose; I can move it an eighth inch or more back and forth on the spool shaft, considerably more freeplay than on other spools.  Looking at the schematics, it appears this tooth assembly is integral with the spool.  I haven't yet tried removing the lock spring and pulling the level wind gear, if I do is there anything that can be done to fix this, or am completely wrong in my diagnosis?

thanks

Hi Tim, and welcome to the forum.  You may have to buy a new spool. :(
