new 14/0 vs old or go with 80w or maybe 130

Ive been shark fishing for years from my boat in the bays and have hooked into a few i could not turn around with 6/0. But i just got a ocean kayak prowler 13 and been thinking about going to the beach side of the gulf. I live in panama city fl and one of my buddies is part of the shark club that just caught the 9ft great white from the beach and the mako bite has been good. He told me to look into the 14/0 he said the new one is just as good as the old ones and theres nothing wrong with the plastic spools. even though all the ones he has are the older models lol. But really want a 16/0 just cant see spending the money on something i want as a show piece and a 14/0 would be used more then the 16/0 im sure. so i was wondering what are the cons and pros of the new and old 14/0. I have a 9/0 plastic spool now and ive only been able to get around 500-550 yards of 50lb ande mono on it. if anyone has a 14/0 or 16/0 or even a nice 12/0 pm or email me at bigblocknovass@yahoo.com.

First off Chad,
Welcome Aboard!

I don't know if you have held a fully spooled 14/0. But it is like picking up a cinder block!
I'll make you an offer. I'll send you this 14/0 chrome spool beauty for $400 shipped. It has a new drag stack and washers and has been fully serviced by me. It has a full spool of 130lb test mono.
All you will need is a rod to bolt it to and you will be set. Considering the shipping, the line and the service. I think that's a pretty good deal.
This reel is not new, Hence the Chrome spool. A New one with the aluminum spool will run you about $500 shipped. Then you will have to add your own line.

email me pics and your paypal info. I held my buddies 14/0 haven't had a chance to fish it. but I plan to get a nice harness and build a beach cart, i just jabbed the 9/0 in my hip. Funny cause my wife always asking me how i get bruises in the area.

There is 9 out of 10 14/0's, but they don't come easy. That was a one time offer.
This one has a stainless sleeve, double dogs, Keta Krank, 5/0 Kokelar Handle and is Bad to the Bone!
You just have to add another $150 to get it done.

If that is the reel you origionally got from me, I can attest it is in excellent overall condition, and fully spooled with new line. That is a steal for that reel, which should certainly handle anything that takes the bait. You will have to pay more then double that if you plan to try to getinto the even heavier 130 class lever drag reels. This seems like the right tool for the job, at the right price...IMO

Yes John, that is the reel I got from you, but it has a few more upgrades. Prototype SS Sleeve from Tom,
Double ss dogs, Chrome bridge with lip that keeps the gears aligned and a Keta Krank which are now extinct.

He is not making them anymore George. I don't know if he still has any, but I doubt it. He was losing money. As Humble as he is. He wouldn't charge more to make up his losses. I kept his busy for a while.

I would take a 14/0 with braid and 150 -200lb mono over any 80w and we now have 2 shimano 130's. there very nice but also twice as expensive to setup as a 14/0. plus Panama is know for so big tigers and the occasional mako but that's very rare nothing that a modified 14/0 wouldn't stop. Ps all 130 class reels are cinder blocks haha
