Good Morning:

I'm new here, but have been reading the posts for a while now.

I acquired a used Everol reel in 1996 while in the Virgin Islands and have been fishing it ever since.

The problem is, I don't know what I have!

Based on the online research I've done, mine doesn't match any of the historical data I can find.  When I acquired the reel (1996), the old timer who I got it from said it originally belonged to a deceased buddy of his who had "fished with it forever".

The reel itself is about twice the size of my Penn 20.  The sideplate is brass with engraved drag settings.  The engraved settings are black within the engraving only and the sideplate is all brass.  It appears this is the way it was manufactured and not that the sideplate is worn on the surface (i.e. no obvious wear, scratches, etc.).  The highest drag setting at full spool is 45 I believe, but I don't have the reel in front of me to confirm.

I think I have a 1960's manufactured 12/0.

Can anyone confirm based on the information I have provided what you think it might be?

I appreciate any insight you with more knowledge might be able to offer!

Thanks, MaineFish

G'day and welcome MF,
Some pics would be great, if you have the chance.
Here's a 1970s' 12 I did recently: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=5042.0
Is it comparable?
Everol history here: http://www.everol.com/index.php/our-company/
"'Black' scales were produced in the 1960s and into 1972. These were followed by the 'Red' scale of the 1970s...."
Hope that helps.
All the best, Justin
