torium 30 problem

recently i had a friend drop off a torium 30 that he said had drag problem's. decided to upgrade to carbontex washer's while i was at it, due to cracked original washer's. well i put it all together and while checking the drag i it broke free.  took it apart more then a few times and pulled my hair at the same time. decided to call bryan for help. found the spool shaft broken. the shaft is pressed into the spool and thats where the problem is. bryan said it may have been that the drag had been cranked down too much at some point. i shoould have noticed it when the seal was damaged. the second indication was exsessive side play. now to let my friend know that his free reel repair is going to be between a little more then free. i thnk im going to have to let them kokua died along time ago.    in the pic you can see the side play on the shaft.
