I Just bought 3 old American made 9/0s with 2 Penn Senator 60-80# rods. Got a great price. Two of the reels work fine. The only thing wrong with the 3rd reel is the clicker. The clicker tongue is broken off. The clicker button is peened on. I can drill off the old button. I am afraid of breaking the side-plate when attempting to peene the new button on. So here is the question. Can I use one of the newer clicker buttons (new Chinese Penn's) that are used to connect to the tongue. The newer ones are held in place with a clip ring fastener. I can shim to get the length correct. Easy install if it works and no danger of breaking the side-plate or having it too tight or lose. If so what size do I need and what clicker tongue do I use? If this won't work what other options do I have?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bill, welcome.
I believe that the clicker button from the 115L2 will work, I haven't tried it myself, but from the specs it appears to be the same length.
Here is what you'll need:

If you did want to try peening as the original, it's not a big deal. The material on the button is pretty soft and it maks it easy to peen.
Good luck, Sal

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Parts came today. They fit perfectly. The repair took less than 5 minutes after the old clicker button was ground out.
Thanks for the help!
