Penn 249?

The handle looks original. The 249 is the "knuckle buster" version in the narrow spool 49 series. It had no anti-reverse and no drag. It lasted only a few years and is quite collectable, but I wouldn't want to fish one...

Look at it this way Tom, at least you won't need to spend money on the star wheel.
That reel was the upgrade from the branch and line ;D.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

You're a funny man Sal,I was thinking of asking your advice re double dogging this reel if I win it at auction.
Made prior to 1941,  still working and parts available, says a lot for Penns. ;)
Have a friend interested in it for his collection.
