Happy to be corrected, but I think with the early 90s black/silver/pro max reels the 6600CLW is C= bearings, L = levelwind & W= wide. The 6600 is the only size with a wide version.
It can't be too difficult - a lot of people do it.

mhc,  that's how I remembered it too.
I woke today and suddenly nothing happened.

that's what I thought but wasn't 100%. Thanks

A quick question for all of you Ambassadeur experts about nomenclature: What do the letters "AL" designate i.e. 4600AL?

Thanks

Thanks, Fred! I thought about that too, but I also thought it would be redundant the label a 4600 reel as having a level wind when, at least to my knowledge, they never made a conventional reel in that size.

There is a lot of great information here . . . I refer to it often.

Here is the Glossary of ABU Reel Teminololgy in PDF format . . .

Tight Lines !

Since I think there's an error in the Terminology in the post above, and the antique thread about Ambassadeur serials have recently been revived, I thought this one could get a bump as well.

More specifically I want to get it straight concerning the second digit "5" in models like 5500, 6500, 7500 etc. In the PDF above it says the "5" means push button spool release, but they all had a push button didn't they? Doesn't the "5" mean higher gear ratio? I looked around in my old "Napp och nytt" magazines (Tight Lines) and the x500 models generally have higher gear ratios than the corresponding x000 models.

An x600 reel has a thumb bar "FastCast" button. And possibly faster retrieve.
