I read here that some of you have ultrasonic cleaners. If you would share with me what you have been using in them to clean off the grease that would help. I'm currently using an oil based product and disposal of the spent fluid requires a trip to the dump on Haz waste day. Is anyone using something that is environmentally safe?

I've used Simple Green with ok results....problem I have is:

"Every time Catherine revved up the sonic cleanser, I'd piss my pants and forget who I was for about half an hour or so. "

I have used a number of different soap based cleaners in mine, don't use it that much anymore, just an old toothbrush and a good soak mostly. Fortunately my ultrasonic doesn't have the power of Marlinmates.

Hi Mitch,

We use the ultrasonic with a full water bath in the machine, then drop a small sealed metal container into the bath. The metal container has bearings and benzine in. When the benzine gets real dirty, we change it, but that is possibly not what you are looking for - as we just store the used benzine for other really dirty cleaning jobs, then wash off residue.

We only tend to use it (ultrasonic cleaner) on bearings for competition reels, as they are really the only ones that need to be spotless, and the anglers likely to appreciate the full benefit of super clean bearings.

Hope that helps.
