Some time again a started on a project to repair an Ultracast 4600C4. Well the spare frame is on it's way so I started work on the rest. The carbontex drag is done and the complete gearbox is overhauled but on closer inspection I need new bearings for the spool and levelwind. I have decided that I may as well upgrade to bearings on both sides on the levelwind if possible.

How do I do this upgrade and what parts do I need?

I have duel ball bearing levelwinds on my 4500's.  The parts were originally produced for the JDM, I think.  I'm sure Mikes reel repair has the parts, I know Jerry has them at hookless.com.  It takes a levelwind that will handle the bb in place of the plastic bushing.  To be honest it is a upgrade I wish I never did. Too much water intrusion, I think the cons outweigh the benefits.

Hi....Remember to buy the shroud too, as per 0119's above.  The outboard bb does not fit the stock shroud.  Unless you take the dremel tool, and carefully open your shroud, perfectly.  This Mag-X uses the dual bb worm.

May as well do it all, and use the ball bearing idler from a Record.

I'm not sure if Jerry at Hookless, or Mike at Mike's are making their own dual worms, by remove and replace the end gear after installing a bearing. I know Mike's is making dual worms for the 7000's this way.

Both ventures have access to factory pricing, so maybe they buy the smaller ones.  The loose other end bearing is available for mere pennies from the larger bearing houses.

As is the bb used in the Record idler. I buy the gears, and add my own bearing from the jobbers.
