What causes the line to bunch up against the inside wall of the spool as I reel?  In other words...UNEVEN!  TIA.  JEE.

Is it going towards the top of the spool?

Against back wall,spool too far forward. Against front wall, spool too far back. Adjust with shims.

Jechterhoff, as you can see, Irish Jigger is cruising much faster than I am and he' spot on with his explanation. If the line is riding against the top wall, which they usually do, this would be a good time for you to replace the teflon thrust washer with a carbon fiber washer, it usually does the job. You might still need a shim though, but we'll take it one step at a time.

Thanks all.  This is, after an overhaul from a recognized shop in Dallas TX. came back this way.  I think it needs shims but which ones, how many and where?  I finally respooled it with 17lb. test after receiving it 4 months later.  Two-thirds wraps firmly against the back part of the spool and about one-third toward the forward part; nearest the drag adjust.  Everything else works like new.   I thought making several casts off the pier would level it up.  It did not.  That's my old beast and forgot just how heavy that baby was.  LOL!  I need a spinning specialist to send it to and get detailed instructions.  Any and all further suggerstions will be appreciated.  Thanks, JEE.

I would still replace the teflon washer with a carbon fiber washer.
Scott doesn't have the 60-750 in carbon fiber, I usually make my own by enlarging the ID a little on a 6-60 carbon fiber.
Waiting 4 months for service is a long time, I would do away with that guy. Alan doesn't like these, next time you need it serviced and you're having a tough time finding someone, send it over, you'll definitely get it back better than it was.
But in the meantime, look around here. You might just be able to service it on your own.

+1 The Penn ss spinners are very simple and easy to service. I've always fixed my own spinners. Never needed a schematic with the Penn's. Now shimano is another story.  There are some great tutorials here. Do your own service once and you'll never have to send it off again. The 6-60 washer is what I use under the spool of my 8500ss and 850ss the line lays perfect on the ones I own. I open the inside of the 6-60 with a step drill bit. I just twist it with my hands. The line may not lay right on your reel with a 6-60 under the spool but I'd try that first.  Bob

I'm glad you got it to work Jechterhoff, but now you you have to make some octagon washers
We can't stay still around here, we need to keep improving things .
The reel was originally at 11lb drag and 30lb line capacity, you can increase the drags on this one.
I recommend that you go ahead and do so, but the reel will do just fine as you have it.
