I have on of these and need to know how problemmatic the anti-reverse bearings are, last time out while hooked up to a YF the anti reverse bearing quit working and almost broke my hand.  it then majicly started working...?!!!!
Should i just order another bearing and should be all good or is there something else going on????????

The off shore series use a mechanical "dog" system of anti-reverse if I have the right model and memory serves. If yours is not working the spring that activates it may have slipped out of position or sometimes they break from being brittle or the lever is simply gummed up. In both cases it can make them work intermittently.

When it works does your reel go "click click click" then you turn over the handle? Then it has the mechanical dog.

You can find a tutorial for working on the Off Shore spinning reels on this site in the spinning reel section.

Capt pac man is correct....no antireverse bearing just dogs. The dog is actually located underneath the rotor, and not inside the body. The dog teeth that the dog catches are located on the inside of the rotor. Spray can get underneath the rotor and mess with this system. This is a known issue with these reels and the best thing to do is take the rotor off and grease the hell out of the dog the dog teeth. The teeth on the rotor especially since they do not come greased from the factory.

G'day Capt,
If it helps, you can see the assembly on the left here:

More detail here: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=2788.0 (the 9500 and 7500 are basically the same)

The wire 'anti-reverse actuator spring' (#30A) can loosen over time and/or get impeded by salt/grease etc, meaning the dog no longer swings back against the ratchet teeth within the rotor.

It's fairly common and can be corrected by simply cleaning the spring spacer (#30) and lubing with a light oil, then squeezing the circumference of the actuator spring to re-tighten its fit around the spacer.

Good luck, Justin
