This is interesting.  There was a thread where someone was Powder Coating reel parts and we diverged into discussing Duracoat, Cerakote and Gun Kote.  After much research I decided to spend a few hundred bucks and get setup to do Gun Kote as it has the best saltwater properties (as testified by the MilSpecs).  I had never thought of trying to get any of the coatings to stick to the Bakelite though.  I would guess that Duracoat would stick to it best, but who knows.  I'm guessing none stick any better than powder coat and that doesn't work too well (I have a few reels I purchased from a charter outfit that I'm cleaning powder coat off of).  Try using carb or brake cleaner to break the sheen and then the coating might have a chance of holding.  I have a few spare side plates that I'll try the Gun Kote on.

Talked with Joel yesterday. Noting much going on.   No reels or antique gun refurbishing either...but he is hanging in there.  Send him a note.   I'm sure he will like that when he gets back on the computer.
