Ambassaduer 5500c where does this part go?

I purchased a couple of old Ambassaduers, one being a 1973 5500c, which I took apart and cleaned. As I was putting back together I have a part that I thought went on inside of drive shaft bushing, but it does not seem to fit. It's thin like a washer on outside. It has an inside rectangular shape of the drive shaft, at least the handle end of it, and has two little flanges that do not fit into the bushing as I expected. I am posting pics. Any help would be appreciated.

as far as photos go, godaddy.com said that we were WAY past our limit and told me to shut down the regular photo hosting and limit everyone to just avatars.  photos now have to be hosted on photobucket.com or picasa.com, then use the [img] function to display a photo in your post. 

we are just getting too much traffic through here.  when they moved us from the old server to the "grid," they discovered the photos.
