Anyone know if my reel's gear ratio can be reduced from it's 6.1 to less than 5? If so, what parts do I need and where can I order them from?  Thanks!

I can't say for sure, but since nobody else is responding, it may be as simple as swapping the main (drive) gear and pinion gear from the SL-X40HV.  That's the lower speed version with 4.9:1 gear ratio.  Parts diagrams are available on Daiwa's website.  If you compare between the models, they seem to use the same part numbers in the guts except for the gears.  Try emailing or calling Daiwa customer service.  I've received email answers to technical questions and quotes for parts from them, usually within a day.

the guys at daiwa might know, but my guess is that you will not be able to.  the distance between the gears is critical.  lower speed reels need larger pinion gears and smaller main gears.   :-\
