Why are the octagonal drags producing more drag?

With the standard keyed, eared drag stack the CF washer floats and is only "working" on one of the metal washers.  With hex or octo CF washers and keyed metal washers both sides "work", theoretically doubling the potential drag.

Take a look at Penn's Versa Drag system and how they explain it may help you to understand...at least visually.

More. Really a 66% increase all told, since more working washers fit into the same space.
