So, I've pretty much got everything dialed in on my 20IIA's except for one.

Usually, I replace the right plate spool bearings every year . . . we don't have freshwater at our dock and that is a likely culprit every season for me so I just do it on all of them.

But, I have one reel which has an issue.

When (and only when) in high gear it "catches" exactly 4 times in 1 revolution of the handle.  It would probably be fine, but I have to get to the bottom of it.

Any ideas?

Thanks and I will report back WITH PICS as I dig deeper.

G'day and welcome Rob,
The high-speed pinion gear has a 4:1 ratio, so it's likely damaged/notched.
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

once a crank is the drive shaft or the main gear.  4 times a crank is the spool or pinion gear.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

You both were correct.

Pinion gear where it contacts high speed main gear.  I looked very closely at both, they looked good.

Rotating handle until I felt the bad spot, pulled out pinion gear.

That spot on pinion looked fine, but it had some (salt?) buildup in the nothces of the gear.

Cleaned it up and voila!

Problem solved at a cost of $0.00 !

This is a great site thanks you guys!!!

I recently had to do that on a torium. Works like a charm.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D
