My drag seems to be really low even when set to full lock I can pull line easily. It has a brand new drag in it so I can't think of anything that would cause this. Can someone please help.

A couple of things. 1) drag washers are out of order. 2) the eared washer is not seated in the main gear. Either of those would cause your problem.

They are in order. It could be the eared washer. I'll have to take it apart and look. Thanks

jamesnashtonbrady

So I took it apart today and everything was were it needed to be so I put it back together and it's still doing it

Is the star bottoming out. Have a pic?

Do you have a missing or flattened spring washer?   Replace it with a 18-505 Bellville spring washers.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

All washers are there and idk if the sleeve is long enough. I just know what's on it. Idk what it came with originally

RowdyW

The spacer sleeve must stick out past the plate . When the star contacts it the more pressure on it the higher the drag.

RowdyW

The spacer sleeve looks like a short piece of tubing. One end is on top of the drag stack & the star wheel is against the other end.

I know what it is and what it does. Idk if its the right length for the reel or if it's shorter then it's supposed to be.

RowdyW

If the star wheel doesn't push on it it will not put pressure on the drag washers. It must stick out past the side plate for the star wheel to contact it. You can tell if its long enough just by looking at it with the star wheel installed. If you can't see it its to short or its missing.

It would help if you measured the drag with a scale and told us how much it was. "Seems to be really low " is hard to quantify. 3/0 Penns don't have that much drag anyway with stock washers.

Can you crank down the star?  Could it be that you have stripped threads on the gear sleeve or star?
