I am looking at tackle a CNC machining  school
as a final project  we have to design  and build something of our own design
I was thinking of something along the lines of a accuplates side frames
so My question here is  in a narrow spool reel  what features would  included
the rest of componets would have off the self hot rod parts
spool  and spacers
I am leaning towards a 506 style reel
so in a dream reel  what gears and drags would want to see
what style of side plates  flat sided like accurate or slightly domed like progears ?

How would  you   Alan and other readers frankenstein the perfect narrow spool reel ?

Jimmer

Make the spool big enough to hold 200 yds 27lb leadcore plus 150yds 30lb spectra backer. Let me know when it's ready - Thanks!
What - me worry?   A.E.Neumann

Tiburon makes some nice narrow frame kits for the 113h and 114h
they would give you the power and lots of line.Accurate side
plates are heavy. the standard penn plates are strong enough.
I built a 114h with one of there kits and it was KICKASS.
Anybody that saw it fell in love with it. Somebody made me an
offer i could not refuse for it, so i sold it. I was going to build
a narrow framed 114h but never got around to finishing it.

due time and money and distance from the ocean  most I can fit in is a full day or 3/4 local  or twlight trip
so  I don't go any place  where I need any thing bigger than  penn 500 class of reel
I would be building this reel for My own use  I am not trying to out produce Accurate or Tiberon or Avet numbers wise
I am looking for  the good parts of differant reels and combine in to one reel
like a stainless steel bridge  and gear sleave
maybe a 5 stack drag  a one peice frame
high speed gears like 5 to 1 or higher
a oversized handle like Alan Tani sells
My Father  was a Oil feild engneer  He said " Make it hell for strong then double it "
It sounds like I am makeing a penn 506 HS on seroids
any thing else I should inculd
a better clicker ?

if i was going to make a reel, it would be the progear classic series 500.
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

never having seen a progear other than pics on Ebay  what does it have going for it  that a 506HS doesn't ?

Sounds like a narrow frame 113 is what you need to get that
strong as hell reel made. much more parts around to work with.
like a 5 or 6 disk smooth drag.to start with.

Hey Walter, see http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=253.0 link.  It's a similar design, small, compact, simpler mechanics, and strong.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

I'd try something like a newell 200 series bridge and gears, which is stainless and uses penn 500 drag washers, then build the integral left side and open top frame one piece with right side plate, like pro gear. Then to top it off figure out an ajustable clicker like the Trinidad. If you make a reel with stacked drag like penn make shure to incorporate a shield or better yet a seal on the drive shaft, otherwise you'll get alot of water in it.
