New to conventional reels...sort of

I have owned Left handed ambassador 6501 reel for about ten yrs.  I can cast with. this reel really well.  My question is if pared with the right stick can I expect to cast as well with a Penn 310 GTI. can I use this real to cast from shore.  sorry if its a dumb question.
