Just recieved a penn 309 lw to service for a friend. Before disassembly I noticed that with eccentric lever in free spool and clicker on that it took a half rotation of the spool and then it kicks the spool over to the crank side.just seems like the clicker gear is hardly making contact with the tongue.  A few flips of the eccentric lever and voila! Back to normal.ive torn this thing down 3 times and I honestly cant figure it out. :-\

Note: does the same with the reel engaged in gear and clicker on (rookie mode)

check the free play in the spool, left to right, it might be too sloppy, you can adjust the free play with the bearing cap on the clicker side plate, it should move very little, you might have to turn it in a bit

tighten the one on the clicker side plate, turn it inward and check frequently the side play, not too tight that the spool binds
