alan, I am looking at a NIB Formula GLD 30 2-SPD are they any good ?
looking for a lite weight 30lb reel since i have a bad hand and can't hold a
lot of weight for long periods of time. I also like penn reels.
Cal's said he could blueprint it and i would love it.

Just to stir up the pot.... have you looked at the Avet LX 2 speed? Light weight, aluminum vs. graphite frame and it wouldnt need Cal's magic touch. I think it would cost less in the long run.  I have read that the GLD series is significantly  better than the previous generations,  (KG series), so I'm sure your choice is a good one. Alan, how does it compare to the other graphite reels on the market ?
price wise and durability wise ? what do you think this reel is worth ?
and YES Cal's can work magic on Penn reels.

The GLD 30II isn't a bad reel but it is not a light one either. It feel like a tank. If you are concerned about weight, you need to actually hold one -- and then look elsewhere...

i think i'd actually rather see you get the shimano tld 20 two speed.  you will need a larger handle, but it's a much easier reel to work on.  alan
