The Scottie's 'S' and 'J' style dehookers were designed for removing externally hooked J and Circle hooks, the ARC was specifically designed for small tuna hooks (to meet Federal commercial fishing CFR mandates), but also works well on small circle hooks.  Typical mandates, and recommendations regarding dehooking advise removing hooks with one of the dehookers whenever the hook is external or completly visable.  Most scientist advise leaving any deeply hooked or ingested hooks in place, since the process of removing them may actually do more damage/inflict greater trama.  Research also shows that circle hooks have a very low probability of becoming deeply hooked in most pelagic species.

That is so true if you can't see it leave it and don't use ss hooks.
