Sometimes the anti reverse dog does not catch and lock up.  Reel is new so dog should not be worn out.  Anything I can do or replace or adjust?  Thanks much

The 6500 C3 has an antireverse bearing. Try cleaning it and lubing with a light oil and if the problem persists you may need a new antireverse bearing.

I would check the IAR bearing first as it's your 'primary' anti reverse mechanism (no handle back play/slop). The anti reverse pawl/dog is there as a 'back up' for when the IAR bearing fails. Try cleaning out the IAR bearing then 'lightly' lube it with corrosion x or similar.

Regarding the pawl/dog - you'll notice it has two leafs which pinch on to the ratchet gear - make sure those leafs are not too widespread because the pawl only works via friction.

If your reel has an antireverse dog as backup it can be fixed with a security spring - the sound of safety  :) .

Only the very latest 2014 version of the C3 has a backup anti reverse dog.

use a very light oil on the pawl leafs and anti-reverse sproket.  This is one place where grease does not work very well.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Do all the 6500C3 reels have the anti reverse bearing?

Early pre IAR bearing C3 reels had AR dogs too.
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

I have all of the answers, yup, no, maybe.

That would be a C. All C3's had IAR bearings until the latest update this year when they put in a backup dog.

No, the early C3 reels did not have a IAR bearing and used a AR dog, I have a few.

Mine doesn't...but I don't know how old it is either.  I just never checked.

Mine are probably around 20-25 years old, I can't remember when I bought them.  My C4's came with no AR dog and a IAR bearing but I fixed that by adding a AR dog to them.

Mine says 990202 on the bottom.  Anyone know the year and if it has anti reverse bearing.  I know it has a dog though. Thanks.

According to the schematics, version 99-07 was the first to offer IAR, deleting the mechanical dog. There is no full-blown drawing for 99-06 out there, so it seems reasonable to assume that 99-07 was first.

The dual system of dog, and iar is very current in 4-5-6 reels.... the Left handed 'JB' reel had both, a while back.
I suggest that both the IAR and mechanical system came in year 2014 reels as per blurbs at pure fishing's page.

Remember: country to country, this could be different. Here in the Great White North*, there were no dual setups in year 2013.

Folks like Keta and myself have purchased the dog posts, and add them all the time. The posts are a global thing, not available in America.
