So a fishing buddy of mine called me last night & asked me a question concerning saltwater fishing regulations in southeast US. I don't know, & have so far been unable to help him find the answer.

He is going to the Florida Keys (Atlantic side) in 2 weeks to fish from shore. Then, in a couple months, he will be going to Gulf Shores, AL & will be fishing in the Gulf there. He knows he has to buy a saltwater license for his Keys trip, & was thinking of getting a 7 day non-res license for about $30. He's a thrifty (code for cheap) little fella & got to wondering if he could use the same saltwater license to fish in the Gulf later this year, & if so, he will just get an annual license for about $50, & save himself $10.

I'm not a saltwater guy, & as mentioned above, I have been unable to find the information. Do any of you guys/girls know?

I believe        If you fish from shore    the license is free
If you pay to fish from a pier   that is your license.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.   Alto Mare

AL - he needs salt water lic, if he is only fishing from salt pier, AL has a pier only lic, that is much cheaper.

Checkout both states fish & game web sites, the information should be there.

Sounds like a fun time! He cannot, however, use the same license in different states. Last time I checked, in FL, there was no need for a license fishing from shore. Head boats(party boats on the west coast) have boat licenses that cover everyone that fishes on them. I have no idea about Alabama though. Check out their respective DFW pages, I'm sure they'll have better info.

In Florida, the free shoreline license only applies to residents of Florida,  Alabama is probably the same.

Yes, you need a lic if you not resident.

you can buy it online and drop it in to you phones apple wallet, pretty slick.
