Ok, I've been driving down my block everyday for a year looking at this bayliner. Curiosity finally got me, so I stopped and inquired... Needless to say, It was for sale (guys wife wanted it out of the yard).. So, two weeks later, I scrounged some cash and called they guy back and bought it.. The adventure, however; began with pulling it out of his yard 100 plus feet to the road... First, you attach a 1994 gmc 1500 to it (the boat), then you attach a heavy tow strap to front of gmc, then other end of that to rear of your helpers 1996 dodge 2500.. (Should work right???).. The answe to that is uhh, no....(boat moved forward almost 6 inches before back end of gmc sinks a foot).... Hmm.... scratch head, disconnect dodge, and drive home for more gear.. neigbor had massive 6 inch aluminum C channel pieces 8 ft long whoopee!! Ok, now head back to buried gmc connected to boat, and start jacking on the two 3 ton commercial floor jacks... Now, truck is level and has massive C channel under both back tires... Groovy right ?? No, boat tires (4 of them) are 6 plus inches deep.. Pull harder right ?? You betcha !! Now, re-attach Dodge to GMC thats pulling boat, and Dodge and Gmc go sideways... Hmm.. Just a little more power is needed... Oh, and here comes a neighbor in a huge Powerstroke !! After begging, he allowed me to tie a massive, I mean 7 inch wide strap to the powerstroke, that to the dodge, and dodge to Gmc pulling stuck boat.. You get the picture right ? (A parade) As the Powestroke turbo started to make awesome noise, the dodge 2500 with a 360 started to rattle its glasspacks, and My Gmc 350 rattling its custom exhaust, (I'm telling ya, the cocophany was beautiful !! Then there was this huge suction noise as all 3 vehicles slid sideways, (turbos and glasspacks and custom cat-back system all harmonizing); And the boat levitated!! Out the driveway the three of us went with my new toy !!! Yaaay !!.. Once I pulled a block home, and hosed the mud off, the tires looked low. It just so happened that one of my intelligent friends was observing the parade, and made the statement that a one cubic foot of water is over 8 lbs. Hmmm, I wonder how many cubic feet of water is in the bilge?? I'm not an engineer, but the siphon hose is still running.. And here she is in all her slimy glory.. 225hp chevy/volvo/penta, depthfinder, fishfinder, trim tabs, refridgerator, rod holders, built in tackle box, stereo, searchlight, windshield wiper, air horn, etc,etc... All for $600 bucks with title... Was it worth it?? You Betcha !!
The pics..
The purchase price seems fine in fact its a deal if you were to peice it all out & sell. But your not doing that. This will be an adventure for you. I hope a happy one... Jeff
Boat: hole in water into which one throws money.
BOAT is an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand. This looks like a BOATT (10k) plus a tonnage of sweat equity. You must really need a hobby!
Sounds like some project fun!
Alrighty then, that's my boat, but really I's testing my system 'cause I couldn't post a picture yesterday. Really looks like you'll be learnin about boat construction and maintenance. Yeah, payin out some too, but everyone probably knows that already.
Believe it or not, I'm into that yak for $4,000+ With the purchase price and the integrated electronic motor system.
Gfish
Looks like a Bayliner 25 Trophy, mid 1990's. Great boat, very simple. Verify the structures after a good cleaning. Keep the pictures comings, the project does not look too difficult. It will cost you. If you do not want to spend money on it, you should clean it best you can and put a For Sale sign on it. If the boat is sound, you should make $5000.
1986 trophy.. I own my own shop. Outdrives are easy, and fibreglass is no problem (does'nt need glass anyways). I've never bought a "working" boat. That would be expensive. My first was a 1960 elgin 40hp. I was so proud of her new interior and polish and tuning. When I went to the ramp on a beautiful day and she sputtered and died in the cold water (took 10 min to adjust the carbs). This guy backs in next to me in a beautiful big block metalflake jet boat), scoffs, tells me YOU SHOULD BUY A BETTER BOAT, and rocks me with his wake as he roars off(violently causing me to cut my hand on the engine)..(we were the only boats at the ramp). Two hours later, I see this jerk broken down with his hydraulic engine cover open waving a flag. Being the good boater that I am, I pull up to him and say "engine problems"??? And he says yah... I then quickly asked if he had plenty of sunscreen and water for himself and his girlfriend. He said yes. I asked was he sinking? and were there any medical emergencies?.. He said no, So I said ............................... (wait for it)............................... YOU SHOULD BUY A BETTER BOAT !!
HAHAA... And zoomed away..

If you choose to continue in this adventure the advice given above will at some point play numerous times in your head. I repeat before proceeding have it checked out by some one licensed to do so. You can at this point recoup easily what you have in it even if the hull turns out to be a loss. Just the drive alone if operable is worth more than $1000 & thats not counting what ever rigging & the motor..Jeff
OK, good you have an idea & arent just running dumb & blind. Do post pics as you go along I find stuff like this of great interest & good luck with it... Jeff
Gfish, your boat is Cool!! I count 3 custom reels, two spinners; what i think is a fishfinder also.. too slick man.. dig the custom rodholders. You're giving me ideas.
Cool beans Carl......will be looking forward to the progress....Bill
Carl don't let anything said in this thread discourage you. That boat has not had love in a long time. You are its savior. You give it lots of TLC and it will give you lots of fun and pleasure. Dominick
I was not in any way wanting to be a discouragement. I just think as one who has had great intentions met with mountains of agravation & hardship in these endeavors but yet not beat down by these past experiences enough to kill my desire to do it again. Its a good thing that some one know or be aware of what can happen. Maybe my experience can help save them some of my own bad experience.
It seems that he very well in fact does know & is quite happy to carry on. Which is a good thing... Jeff
Good luck and have fun Carl, sounds like you have a good working knowledge and shouldnt be a problem. I recently finished a total rebuild on my 1978 Seacraft in 2015, and also did my brothers 1974 13' Boston Whaler. Always updating the big boat my friend owns and to be honest is quite enjoyable. Have fun and take your time, took me two years to finish my seacraft, secret is when you get tired of it , take a break until you feel like getting back on it. So much to do when you get down to it!
Did you check if the engine turns over?
Can't wait to see the progress photos! Good for you. That looks like a fun project, your neighbor is gonna feel bad when they see it looking like brand new rolling past them as you head out for some fun.
Good luck, and good boating. Seem like it was glued down! 🤔. You will have a lot of fun I'm sure. After the sea trials you're going to even have more friends. Keep us posted on the project. :)

YES !!
Keta, I havent got that far yet. Engine is probably junk. (I already have 2 spares and build my own engines. It is filthy in bilge so I am gonna pull outrive then engine anyway. I like SPOTLESS bilges so gonna paint and led light the whole compartment also. I've been scrubbing it all day, but it got dark before I could shoot pics.. (more to come)....
:)
Bring it, pictures rule! It sounds like you've been here before.
Carl,
You enjoy that new boat of yours. By the sounds of it she'll be slaying fish shortly. The biggest tip I can give anyone cleaning mold or mildew is to use peroxide in a spray bottle and let it do its thing for a few minutes, then wipe clean. It won't hurt fiberglass or anything else for that matter, but i do keep it away from exposed wires and batteries for peace of mind. Always keep peroxide out of direct sunlight as that will degrade the potency. That's why they always come in an opaque bottle.
Have a blast and please post photos when you reach milestones in the build.
Dom
I have'nt had much time for the boat as I have been busy working. I did manage to clean the cockpit/helm area up though.. I went to the fishing show in Houston friday, and boat prices are ridiculous..(try a hundred grand for a new center console this size) I'm happier with this purchase every day !!
Really looking forward to your progress on this. Deck is bigger than I thought... Jeff
Carl,
Keep the pics coming! Looks like an awesome boat! Lots of room, plenty of storage space, and it seems like you will have no problem re-powering it. For the price you paid, you can't really go wrong. Enjoy it, and post pics along the way.

With a boat yes you can ;D But it's good to know Carl seems to have a good idea on whats up. Should be a great thread to watch unfold... Jeff
Carl,
You did good,
Are you going to rebuild or swap engine?
What does serving the outdrive entail? do you have to put in a new water seals?
Also is there any gas in the tanks? Will you flush them or just put in fresh tanks?
Yeah new boats are ridiculous $$$, it robots laying glass now, I wonder why prices are not dropping for these.
I just looked at this thread again. This is I think a really cool looking boat.
Yes on rebuild of stock engine (unless its junk-i have a spare to re-build). Gas tank coming out- reseal or replace...... And, outdrive is just gimbal bearing, ujoint, and water impeller(I think-my first penta outdrive) Everybody that cries about boat repair prices does'nt work on them by themselves. Heck, I got a recall on my Pontiac vibe(toyota matrix); and there is no way in hell I'm letting those dealer morons touch it.. (I built the engine, a/c system, brakes/installed gps navigation, etc etc.)
Best of luck with the boat. Looking forward to the project pics.
Carl does Texas put alcohol in gasoline? There was a problem with alcohol causing gas tanks and gas lines to deteriate. Especially as you reported the boat has been sitting for a long time. You might want to do some research into this area. Dominick
Yes, most of texas has ethanol in gas. Yes, I deal with it every day.. I am an automotive diagnostic technician with 32 years of experience.. I own my own auto repair facility.. I rebuild electronically controlled automatic transmissions for fun (and profit).. If the tank is screwed, I have two buddies that own fab shops that deal in titanium pressure vessels. I have access to mig, tig, heliarc, plasma, flo-jet, bridgeport mills, lathes; etc.. I also build and operate ham radio equipment (so a little electrical wiring on a boat is child's play) Most of the big auto dealerships around here hate me as I routinely fix things they say can't be repaired, or that they wrongly diagnosed) I also do bodywork and paint.
I'm going to bring my car to Texas. :D Dominick
The '74 standard beetle I just restored..
You are not the ordinary bird that dealers prefer. 💰You will be waay better off to do all the work you can. 🛠You will know what you have. Where the wires going, what is branched off from where. When you break down, your not as screwed, you are always in your own control pattern. Relying on other people to help you in emergencies might be a mistake. 🚣♀️ always have a back up plan. And a kicker ☝️
Good luck and good fishing 🎣
The 2013 rt hemi challenger I rebuilt from totalled (twice).. It died badly the third time when it t-boned a f250 in the rain.
And, the '71 cutlass I restored 12 years ago.. It's getting fresshened up- new paint, floorboards, interior, etc, etc.. I could download 200 more pics, but this should give you guys an idea of what I can do... Carl
That is fantastic work you've done in those pics.Done at a superior level.
Been around a bit of body work. Most shops won't mess with that level of damage anymore.
l'd venture a guess that boat couldn't possibly be in any better hands... Jeff
And when I have a lousy day, this is in my backyard.. only half of it is on my property, but nobody else is ever there.. just panfish, but fun.. I gave up killing myself in 2007 and bought this place 2.13 acres with a 10 year old singlewide mobile home. everyone thought I was crazy moving out here until they built a massive tollway 1/4 mile from here and the population doubled. Now I work in the shop I built in my backyard , go fishing when I want; and usually don't wake up till 11:30am ! No car payments, and the place is almost paid for... Time to rebuild the boat... Life is good... Carl

Do you have an overhead hoist to lift the engine/out drive etc out?
Yeah, boat repairs is a pain, here in west mi, even if you pay it is hard to get someone who is competent.
Uber Carl!!! Nice stuff, I can't wait to see your project boat on the water!!!
Carl U Da Man! Looking forward to the boat build....Bill

Carl,
My only comment is that you have reached Nirvana! Many people strive for it; but, you are there. When I grow up I want to be like you!
Very, very cool Carl! Looks like your in to a bit of everything. And with some serious talent too!!
Been an Extra Class license holder for more years than I can remember.
Had a contest station set up on 3 acres. 3 towers up to 110 ft and numerous stacked yagi's, 10 thru 40 meters and phased verticals on 80 and 160. I'd be willing to bet my yard has at least 50 miles of copper wire buried around it. I still operate CW when I get a chance but all the towers are gone. Just got to old to maintain them.
Great work on the boat project and others. Yup, the ethanol is a real problem. Some boat manufactures have gone to Poly tanks.
Good luck!
73's and all the best from Lou, ... KS1L
looks like you are the right guy to bring that Bayliner better than original.
absolut wonderful work
looking forward your advances on your boat project.
and I felt like a pro for just painting the old fishing rods when restoring them ::) ::) ;D
Wow Carl,
You Have some serious skills!
The biggest Project Car I ever attempted is still in my Garage.
I just can't find the time.

It looks like you're almost there !!
Carl,
I started this Kit Car with my Father.
He left this World probably 10 years ago.
I can't bring myself to work on it again.
I can't get past the Mental Block of Him and Me taking its first ride.
When I get past that, I will finish it, But I don't think it is in me any longer.
This Kit was made by a Company called the Jurassic Truck Corporation.
They were based out of Fort Worth.
They have long went under.
Turn Key, This Truck will have no problem selling.
I just need to get past it.
I have 24K invested. I would sell it for 10 at the drop of a hat.
All that is left is some wiring and gearing.
Maybe someday, I will finish what My father and me started.
I would rather just sell it for a loss and keep that Memory alive.
Daron,
That's an awesome rig. Much cleaner than the HMMWV's i've spent countless hours hanging parts on!
I would have to imagine your dad was extending his legacy through you. It's painful, but he would want to see what you built together completed. He'll always be a part of it, as he is a part of you. His sweat equity is tangibly represented in that machine.
One day I bet we'll see that finished with a small selection of your monster catchers next to it.
Wish you the best,
Nick
Daron, that is a moving story. Where do you keep the car?
I have a couple small projects, antique restorations, I worked on with my Dad that I can't finish.
We were in it for about zero dollars but the feeling is still strong. It's been 17 years.
Steve
My dad was an artist and avid gardener. I have all his brushes and his favorite trowel. Never use them but keep them where I can see them everyday. Been almost 20 years now. Still miss him.
It will be there when I'm ready. ;)
It sits in My Garage Steve.
Sorry to Hijack your thread Carl.
For now, it is a $24 K Kayak Rack. ;D
Awesome Daron, your Dad will be so proud when you finish it.
Tim
Daron think about your Dad's wishes and get moving on the project. Dominick
Daron,
"For now it's a 24 K kayak rack"
That one brought a smile to my face!!!
Brett
Gentleman,
I thank you for the kind words and sympathy.
You only have one Dad.
I will make him proud, like I always tried to.
He had a new respect for me after joining the Navy and being Honorably Discharged.
He just left too soon, He was only 62.
There is not a day that goes by that he is not in my thoughts or Dreams.
Enough of my Blubbering, lets see that Boat Carl. ;)
So, I woke up, went to the auto parts and picked up a load, then back to the shop; and noticed (what a nice day it is - much too nice to work).... Hmmmm.... must go fishing !!! Bought some lures, a subway sandwich, and off I went... Hit the San Jacinto river, then lake livingston, and then home with a stop at the mailbox... I have been fishing with a daiwa 7450 hrl since about 1979 that my dad bought new, and although not rare, I found another nice one on Ebay, and it was in the mailbox along with the crank that Daron procured for me !!! THANKS DARON !! This thing is Great !!! P.S. Now to finish a perfect day, I'm gonna take a nap !! See ya .......
Always wanted one of these.. pretty simple, only took an hour, need two more elbows to brace under toolbox..
