Hi all, I have put this here to get a little more exposure. I tried Penn questions.
Someone brought me a Penn GTO 230. The reel feel like it has a gear tooth missing. When turning the handle ( with pressure on the spool) it acts like a anti- reverse dog the has a worn tooth, except going forward instead of backward. I broke the reel down, it look like new inside. The gears, dog, level wind, every thing look great. Any input would sure help.
Thanks.

check the white nylon idler gear for a busted tooth or a piece of flotsam.
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

It is in good shape, no missing teeth, etc. I did find a small piece of plastic (not gear material) floating around it the reel. That must have been it, I can't get it to skip ant more!
         Thanks Alan

Well I let it sit a while, now it skips. I will break it down again and go thru it one more time.

Well it is in the right side. The only thing that I find is on the spool. The lug that meshes with the pinion gear has two opposing corners that look odd to me. It may be designed that way or wear. I have not looked in many Penns in years. But even at that this (to me) just does not seem like something that would do this. I can not see the pinion sliding up far enough to jump over the spool lug. As I said before all the parts including the main and pinion look great. Any thoughts????? Sure ain't my Makairas!
