I have a couple of old Reels where the side plates have a white-ish haze to them..

The obvious; rubbing, residue from the chrome polishing paste, etc., doesn't seem to help.  Any experiences removing it before I do some damage?

Thanks

For me, I found oiling them with a thin layer of corrosionX works best for me.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Try some car cleaning restoration type products for plastics.

Make sure you buy Polishing Compound because Rubbing Compound will be very coarse.

I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I used a little bit of both there, product called Buff Magic. Basically a light compound.

The oil will soak in and get rid of any sunburned reels. Especially the TLD's. I too buff Penn side plates with polish and even Blue Magic metal polish works great.

First oil them overnight with the oil.

be very careful using the buffing wheel, the heat will discolor the plate. Don't even try it on a handle knob, it will do a good job melting it.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Also don't soak the handle knobs in engine cleaner for too long because they will discolor.

Completely clean the side plates --

Heat them to about 120 using a heat gun -- no more than this!

Drop them in a pie tin of Black Magic plastic and rubber restorer for 8 hours.

Remove and let set for 2 hours on a paper towel.

Dry them with an old flannel cloth.

Hand buff them with an automotive chamois cloth -- and your done.

The Black Magic solution can be poured back in the container -- it will be good many times again -- no waste.
