I recently purchased a project reel. The clicker doesn't work and it appears to be a bit loose in the hole. I properly aligned it and it appears if I inserted a clip between the clicker and underneath the revet on the inside of the button it would properly stay in place. The senator clicker design isn't designed for easy repair, I had to buy an entire new side plate for my other 12/0.

Any ideas? I will post some pics later today or tomorrow for further analysis. This may be an issue others have had.

Thanks.

A new clicker button and pawl can be ordered directly from Penn (call Tony Dubeck in the parts department).  You need to drill out the old one, and peen the shadt on the new button to secure the pawl.  Take care to avoid damaging the plate during bith processes, and don't over peen the button shaft (or it will be too tight).

If the clicker ring is loose it is not an easy fix.  I have had some sucess peening the rivets to tighten it up.  Alternatively, you must carefully drill out the rivets, and install inserts, and new screws to secure a new ring (also available from Penn).  I have messed up some side plates trying tbis with limited sucess, so proceed with caution.  I have seen guys just run small bolts/machine screws from outside the plate to secure a new clicker ring.   This works but doesn't look good.

If the clicker ratchet is loose on the spool, you may be able to have it spot welded in place.  Or try peening it.

If the ratchet is heavily worn, try filing the teeth a bit, or take it to a machine shop and see what they can do, or replace the spool.

You're right about these clickers being somewhat problematic to fix.

I have fixed severel with sucess though.

Good luck!

There is another way,
Get a Clicker button for a 9/0.
Part 36-115L2. Then use the 35-115 Tongue and a C clip.

You just have to grind down the old rivet enough to remove the old assembly.
I prefer this method to peening.
I have broken plates trying. :o

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.-Sal
