Found this online -- taking a couple of pickup loads of junker plastic, graphite, and aluminum reels out to the dump.

This is about all these reels are good for, IMO --

However, I would have spent a couple of days just stripping off the cranks and spools..

Then again -- maybe not worth the effort.

Any idea where is that pile located?

Sorry, do not know --

It was one of those photos on Pinterest -- just a couple of photos from somewhere on the web or google.

Truthfully, to me, it looks like a shop that is just dumping its reels not worth repairing -- after holding on to them for a few years.

But then again, any operating shop would strip the low hanging fruit parts off of these -- such as bails, cranks, spools, drag knobs, etc.

The gears, springs, cheap zinc screws, bodies, frames, and rotors -- are  mostly just Big 5, WalMart, and Asian look-alike pieces.

I suspect someone who did reel repair passed on -- after hoarding all of these reels that parts were not available for, or economically reasonable to fix up.

Relatives had some folks come in to liquidate the inventory -- and after cherry picking the good stuff -- this was the dregs.

But it could be some other story -- who knows?

Pull all these spools and they might have close to your count.

Maybe, but you never know...

Mine keep expanding quicker than I can sell them off -- friend in the business just sent me another 5 crates of new old stock spools.  ABUs, Daiwas, Shimanos, Garcia, Cardinals, and Shakespeares.

They just won't go away.

if I chanced upon a pile like that I reckon the pickup bed would have been full when I left even if they were junkie reels just to have some around to tinker with when boredom strikes
one of these days maybe I will find a yard sale with boxes and 5 gallon buckets full of immaculate high end reels at a buck a bucket ::)

Here is an old Bronson Green Hornet Mo. 2200 -- when you mentioned it, Mike -- I went out to the lamp bins and found this little guy -- disassembled, cleaned, stripped old line, replaced worm, pawl, 2 gears from NOS parts dating probably over 60 years ago, or more -- replaced line, modern lubes, adjusted -- runs like a top.

Left side crank.

Pretty simple -- 30 minute job -- all of the parts went together in about 5 minutes from scratch -- and I couldn't find anymore parts -- then I realized it was done and complete.

New reels have too many parts.

Hi Fred,

Do you have a bigger picture of your avatar? I was just showing it to my wife and we both agree it has to be the nicest, neatest reel repair station we have ever seen!

Thanks,
