Hey folks,

over the weekend i came by a 750SS on 8' graphite rod appearing in decent shape for a good price. i popped the spool open in the store and could tell by the drags it had been rinsed but never serviced. By torpedo handle i took a gamble that it had brass gears so I sealed the deal. outwardly needed cleaning but not rough, just reeled a little stiff but I thought it just felt like old, hardened grease, no binding or grinding.

Just popped her open........enough dirt inside to plant a row of corn......I mean housing was packed....testament to these SOB's toughness that it reels at all. But drags cleaned up and it has brass main as hoped.

Dilemna: bearings, believe it or not, actually roll pretty smoothly. Should I hit em with corrosion Block and Super Slick Stuff and keep getting it or pull the shields off? No, I  dont have any TS or Corrosion X but Block and Balistol work fine for me.

thanks for input.

I would pull the shields off and blast them out to be sure John.
You don't want any corn growing out of there. :D
Lightly grease or oil. JMO

Good solid advice from the sharker. I would go with grease on those instead of oil though.

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Thanks Sal! If I pull shields off I pack with Penn blue; obviously not gonna hurt distance on a spinner and this one will chunk bait so I'm not reeling all day anyway but will be protected in surf.

I seriously have a tablespoon of sand out of the housing; amazed the bearings roll as I would guess this one got dumped in surf, hosed off, and set in a corner.

Heading your way tomorrow. NE anyway, actually Dom's way.
