A few years ago I benefitted from Alan's knowledge so when I later came across this site I signed up without hesitation.  I quickly became aware that many of the members of this fine site have knowledge of the inner workings of reels approaching that of Alan himself.  I have little real reel knowledge, just enough to have maintained my old Senators over the years, so I became just a lurker.

Being in Hawaii, I did feel comfortable contacting fellow Hawaiians Bryan and Kamuwela a few times and from there I did post a few times.  I now realize that I never did get "a round tuit" and give an introductory 'HOWZIT' to everyone so (picture Will Smith sitting in the therapy circle in Hancock) let me now say:

Aloha.  My name is lawaia (fisherman in Hawaiian) and my addiction is fishing (unfortunately as opposed to catching  ;)).  I fish off the shores of the island of Oahu in the 50th State of Hawaii, where we kill and eat most everything we catch  :o.  Conservationists need not worry because not every fishing trip involves catching  :'(.  Highly paid chefs, however, should worry because a good portion of what we do catch never sees a recipe, instead going straight from inside its skin onto a sashimi platter  ;D.

As I hope y'all can see, I like to have a little fun and have been mixing fishing and fun pretty much my whole life, the last 35+ years out in the deep blue, where we've been fortunate to catch every gamefish available here except for the rare sailfish.  If this old dog can figure out how, I'll post up some photos from Hawaii once in a while, just to give those of you who might be snowbound or have your boats laid up for the winter something to keep your spirits up and to look forward to.

Mahalo and (belated) aloha to all,
Courtland

HI CORTLAND!!!  It's nice to see you here.  What have you been up to since the last time we communicated?
Hi, my name is Lee and I have a fishing gear problem.

thank you for joining us!  for photos, you can load them onto picasa or photobucket.com and copy and paste the [img] function into your post.  your photos will show up in your post, even though they are hosted on another site.  godaddy.com says we had too many photos here, so i had to shut that part down.....   :-\

Hey Jimmer - I can totally relate to local greetings!  Besides "aloha" the most common greeting here is "howzit".

Thanks, Alan, for trying to help me with posting pics; we'll see how that goes below.

Lee - Great to hear from you again!  Hope you've been as well as can be and have been catching 'em up.  Kinda like the weather out here, things have pretty much been the same old, same old since last we communicated.  Fishing's still fishing with some hits and some misses and the only constant being that it's still beautiful out there no matter what.

Here's one hit we got on my neighbor's boat (hope Alan's tutelage pays off):

Yellowfin tuna...

And a couple on my boat:

Striped marlin...

Wahoo...

Hmmm...the "Preview" button only shows me red x's, dunno how come but am gonna hit "Post" and hope the pics show up then.  Otherwise might need more help.  ???  2ND TRY USING PHOTOBUCKET WORKED!  :)

Anyway, tight lines to all; may 2013 be a great year with good health and plenty of fish for everyone.

Lee's being nice to me: "Cortland is photo posting declined"...I think he meant to say I'm photo posting retarded...erhh, that's "challenged" for you politically correct folks.  I actually have just not put photos into posts using an online account even though I did have a few photos in an online account which was Nikon's PictureTown photo sharing site.  I took the URLs from there for my above first try at putting photos into posts from online accounts but guess Nikon's site doesn't work that way.  With Lee's and Alan's help and encouragement I've opened a photobucket account and reposted the pics in the above.  Looks like it worked, so we've proved that an old dog CAN learn new tricks!  ;D

Realizing that fish pictures might better belong in the Member Fishing Reports and Photos forum, I'll close with pics perhaps more suited to an introductory post:
