Hi All,

I'm a striper fisherman on the East Coast of the U.S.  Exclusively the Chesapeake Bay at Kiptopeke State Park in December and other times at John Kerr Reservoir that straddles VA and NC state line.  At my age, I started a few years ago and don't have time to become expert in more species.  So, I chose striped bass.  Chose a Kerr tutor and leaned live baiting and eventually use of a Ray Jefferson (only sonar that will show a school at speed).  Do cast net for herring and drop the live bait on the head of the stripers when found.  Kiptopeke is a different adventure as the fish are big.  Lots of commentary telling me I'm not a sportsman for harvesting the COWs, but at my age, I can't delay achieving my lifetime acheivement of a 65 pound striper.  So, I don't fish for dinks or schoolies in either water.  I put a lot of effort into achieving my goal, or living the dream as some say.  See http://www.joytbkiptopekecows.blogspot.com to see how much I've learned over the past several years.  My fishing pardner and I seldom have the skunk on us, yet we only take what's allowed.  That is, one striper each day.  Family and we, love striper in beer batter and deep fried!

I'm too old to take a beating off shore and stick to the shelter of the Chesapeake Bay.   shows how my mentor, Team Old School (Mike Smedley) goes at striper fishing near Long Island, NY

OTOH, I'm always an eager learner and take advice that doesn't tell me to find another activity.  Already have that as I love Cowboy Action Shooting!

Having trouble getting my posts to show up in the forums.  Likely take on another activity is this one doesn't .  .  .

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Welcome from the Left Coast...and the Sacramento Delta

Hey Tarfu,

Raised mostly in Vallejo, but only did bank fishing for what ever would bite, not much at my skill level.  Know that salmon and stripers were mixed in with sturgeon, but .  .  .  Did try the mothball fleet a few times, but what I caught weren't in the slot.  Now East Coast locked in, though I'd love to get West again and see if the  years have taught me more or less.  My Dad loved Berryessa .  .  .

Right now in Scottsburg, VA near my fishing ground Kerr Reservoir that straddles the VA/NC state line.  Where I began striper fishing, learned live bait trolling, cast netting, and use of the Ray Jefferson sonar!  Now read Shawn Kimbro and Chesapeake light tackle jigging along with Rudow's many books on striper fishing in the Chesapeake.

Anxious to read about what I missed all these years away from the West Coast .  .  .
