Got this 650ss on ebay for dirt cheap

Looks like it was never open for maintenance, the main gear was stuck on the bearing

My intention was to powder coat it, after striping it I did a little test to see how it would polish, the decision was made

I had to use the file quite a bit on this one, lots of casting defect compared to the 710z I did. Still need a bit of polishing

Marc, you did a fine job on that reel.  I am surprised it is working with all those spare parts left over.  ::) ::) Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

;D That reel was not complicated to start with, it's even less now. No more guessing which lever does what. I also change the spring loaded dog for a silent one and shave the trip bumper, so no more clicking  and clunk

Thanks, Marc..

Is that you on the pics?

As for vintage spinner,  I think the most popular, Penn, Mitchell

Thanks, Marc..

theluckpusher

if that was me in the pic i would have a big hole in my head!!! lol

  for the the vintage spinners
I hear good thing about penn 704Z or bigger and better 706Z --- And D.A.M. 5001 but parts may be hard to find
but I'm in love with the Van Staal reels and ZeeBaaS

to Hodrod an old 704Z could be cheap fun --- any there any other old reels that could be good surf reels

Nice job on that reel Marc, I also like that wood knob ;).

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Old reel - new life - sweet. Nice job :)

Thanks again
Sal! I wont be changing that knob anytime soon :)

Someone was asking me what I was using to polish it, That's everything you need

Those little mounted silicone green point fine grits do wonders in tight spaces

The Mothers mag&aluminm polish is to protect the aluminum, works pretty good

Marc..

Marcq

Man! That aluminum is sure easy to make it shine
