Not my photo, taken from a fine post on BD Outdoors.

This gentleman as seen on one of the Sport Boats out of San Diego and was from South Africa (if I got the story right).

Pretty hi-tech set up with manual anti-reverse, zero bushings and calluses on your palm for drag washers. I don't think he caught fish but damn near anything else has been working off of San Deigo with kayaks launched over the beach getting YFT, Tuna seen inside Dana Point Harbor and BFT landed to 200lbs within 40 miles:

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Always a good reminder to not take our hi-tech uber gear too seriously. :)

Alto Mare

;D 1:1 ratio. Looks like an 8" spool, he would get a constant 26" of line per crank ;D.
Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

Hi Guys,

The reel is froma  company called KP Reels, they make them up to 12" diameter, and some folks even use then for casting in the surf - a true art form for something so 'low tech'.

Cheers
