Hi guys!
Just wondering if anyone has experience with the substitute Mag-Seal oil (MF mag oil) available for sale on Ebay??

Ive been servicing/rebuilding reels (specialising in game reels) for quite a few years now semi professionally but have no experience on Daiwa Mag-Sealed reels.

Ive recently purchased a Daiwa Morethan 3012h  for spinning up my livebait and would like to service the reel myself.

The only option I can find available to me (apart from Daiwa's service department) for after market ferro fluid is on Ebay, any feedback on anglers who have tried this product would be most appreciated.

  Cheers!

Thanks for the reply guys.

Ive ordered some as it is the only option I have available.  Will see how it stands up when it arrives.

Also have a Certate to try it out on which gets a good thrashing so should be a good test for the product.

Cheers!

This is the response from the seller:
"thank you for your contact us.
I'm sorry that We can't know about the base oil detail by manufacture company's technical.
But the oil is included the magnetic element.
The oil can be perfect replacement oil to Daiwa Mag Sealed.
Thank you"

I have searched for the "The Reelshop of Korea" but can't find any presence, so unable to recommend it or otherwise.
Maybe when it arrives heat some on a tin lid or such and see how easily it evaporates, might give you some idea as to whether it is water, hydrocarbon or synthetic base?
cheers

Some more info on this (correspondance with seller of the MF-sealed mag fluid):

Magron is one of the few ferro-magnetic oil producers in the world.
Magron manufactures for the US industry and military and many more
Magron manufactures specifically for DAIWA and DAIWA has no other oil supplier (DAIWA does not manufacture oil DAIWA buys its oil from MAGRON)
but not at the same price as us !!!

As far as the oil is concerned, it's produced by the company MAGRON (which you contacted) for DAIWA. It's called Ferromagnetic fluid and it's an old and widespread invention that has been used in industry as an O-ring for ages. It's composed of pre oxydized iron nano particles in suspension in a silicone dyester fluid.

Hi,
actually DAIWA does not manufacture ferro-magnetic oil for its MAGSEALED,
Daiwa also does not manufacture its bearings, or many other elements that go into the composition of their reels.
Worse still: More and more DAIWA delegates the manufacture of some reels or parts in China!
1 vial  ( container 5ml ) allows to make about 30 magsealed.
For the purchase of a single container I advise you to use EBAY where they are on sale and expiable everywhere PAYPAL payment
If you want more (for example for sale in your area or city) the price and conditions will be different (minimum order in this case 10 pieces)
cordially

Beware that this guy is not 100% steady on english but it seems that Daiwa orders the magfluid from magron (Korea) magron.co.kr

From Daiwa Ausralia Service Department.
Brand: Ferrotec
Grade: 306

The history of ferrofluid dates back to the 1960's. It was originally developed for use in zero gravity fuel propulsion systems for NASA.  My understanding is that the Ferrotec Corporation are the original patent holders on this technology.

By comparison, the Magron Corporation was only founded in 2004. Interesting to learn that there is another manufacturer and I wonder if there is any corporate relationship between the two companies.

A while back Daiwa USA went rogue and listed the ferrofluid for sale as a spare part item.
I am not up on current affairs though.
