Found this pretty looking  140 at a fishing flea market this weekend, along with a greenie 704.  When I cleaned it up, it looks like there is some glue at on the RH sideplate at the bearing cup....so I'm not sure if it is cracked or not.  You can see this if you zoom in on the third photo.

The 704 is in great shape, and I paid $70 for the pair...so I guess I can't complain.

can't enlarge the photo enough to see, but i'm betting you'll be fine.  plenty of side plated floating around here if you ever need one!  looks like a good score!
send me an email at alantani@yahoo.com for questions!

At 400% it still looks like residue . Clean up with a wooden toothpick .....won't scratch.

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

Yeah, my eyes can't see it well either. I do see something by the grease port, but I can't see what it is. Nothing else to add to what others have said.

About the only weak link on a Squidder is the head side bearing cup -- many of the bakelite cups get either blown out, over tightenend, or somehow busted.

Fantastic reels...

I love Squidders.  There was a thread here about someone working on a higher ratio gear set.  Seems to be a big challenge, but I'm sure there are guys on this site who are up to it!

To me a Jigmaster just isn't the right reel for surfcasting in the Northeast. If someone could make parts for a 4:1 (or higher) Squidder, that would be a game changer!
