Hello everyone.  I've been reading allot since i joined.  Total nube to reel repair. Im a avid walleye and new musky fisherman from Ohio.  Just got in to higher priced reels in the last coupe years.  Ive noticed my reels slowing down and starting to have minor issues.  So I've decided to at least learn how to clean and maintenance my own equipment.  I also started upgrading my bearings and drags. But im stuck trying to find a tutorial to take off the left side plate on my 400b calcutta to clean all the over greased gears and debris. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you in advanced. Also would like to say this is a awsome site just feel overwhelmed w all the info.

ReelClean

After you have taken down the RHS and removed the spool you will see the screws inside the LHS cover holding the L/Wind drive gears and the LHS sideplate on.

Thank you for the reply. Do the L wind gears come apart when i remove them screws? I just cautious and don't want a head ache if a bunch of stuff comes apart?

with three screws, the left side plate will come off.  the levelwind assembly itself will stay put.  you really do not need to even take the left side plate off.  what you can do then is blast the levelwind assembly with carb cleaner, then hit it with compressed air, then aerosol corrosion x, then compressed air again, then wipe it dry.  you should see a fair amount of improvement

The standard carb cleaner i assume won't damage the plastic gears?  Sorry for the nube ?s. Thanks for the replies from all.

no, i use carb cleaner all the time.  just don't use it on soft rubber handle grips.
