I finally found the time to detail the gray Monofil 25 I bought recently. It only needed some minor polishing and a new stand. Someone had taken a file to the original in an attempt to "fit" it to a rod, probably the number two boo-boo, right behind "cleaning" chrome with a Brillo pad. I also took a few family photos...what a great lookin' clan those Monofils! 8)

Lookin great Moe, my absolute favorites.

I've heard of a few 27's in black. Have never seen one or even able to verify that. I think Fred had some black plates at one time.

I've seen the 25 in black, but not the 26 and 27. I'd say if one ever shows up for sale we'll be bidding against each other Lou! :D

Mo, if there is such and animal, it would be great to be able to bid on it!

I have a feeling though, it would go in a private sale to the guys with the connections and the big bucks.

Unfortunately, that would leave me out. One never knows though as sometimes luck and timing can play a part. Several years ago I was fortunate to pick up an unused, boxed fuchsia 27, with manual, lube, and all.

There were quite a few of these around when I first started to collect them, and there's still a bunch. Some that have very crazy prices!

Keep doing what your doin Bud,  ...  lookin good,         Lou

   Hey Lou,
I did a quick search for black 26s and 27s...came up with these two sold in the past few months...I guess both of us have been preoccupied and missed the boat. At any rate, they do exist. 8)

The 26 looks like the dark brown? and the 27 looks like a dark brown spool?

I can't say for sure Lou about the 26...but the 27 does appear to have a mottled brown spool. The sad part about this is some sellers edit the photos to make things appear to be what we collectors are looking for. Those pics were kinda dark on eBay...I lightened them...that's when the brown shades appeared. Also I noted that none of the listings with monofils that appear to be black make any mention of the color black...an easy out for them in a dispute. The search continues buddy! 8)

Also thanks to everyone for the comments on my reels. They have to be the largest investment I've made yet to merely sit in a drawer...but I really really like 'em!

These reels represent Penns new line of "colormatic" reels in the mid 50's that were specifically designed for monofilament.

During this same time period many refused to switch to mono, cause old fisherman's habits die hard. Mono would not become popular until the 60's

...nice reels Mo, you're passion for Penns is growing by the day and I'm here to inform you there is no cure.....except to keep searching for those special reels at the right price

Beautiful lineup of monofils Mo! Those have the coolest color options of all the smaller penn's. I wish the jigmaster came in those crazy colors, especially the bright green, purple or marbled.
