Removing tape goo

I am working on a Mitchell 406 spool that was taped around the hub. Tape is off, but residue remains. What do you think is best, a little dove and warm water? I don't want to hurt the paint.

a light mineral oil or citrus oil. the wax remover for downhill skis would work well. that's a citrus cleaner.

Mineral spirits should also easily remove tape or label glue residue without any damage to metal or plastic spools.

Like Alan says , a light oil , even vegetable oil or canola is pretty harmless and works great.

I use WD-40 to remove sticker residue from anything non-porous.
