Never caught a redfish. I've watched while fishing when others hung one. They look like a fun fish.

Redfish seem to be moving more and more north.   I fish New Jersey, and have never caught one, but they do appear.  Also sheepshead are being caught in NJ more frequently.

Why did they name it Sheepshead Bay?

I always wondered about that myself. I believe the town is part of Brooklyn, so the name must be quite old. Also, on the NJ coast near me  there is Shark River.

I think around NY/NJ "sheepshead" is used for both, F/W Drum & Black Drum
prob., both abundant around brackish tributaries at "Bay naming time"
